The Mathematics of Weight Loss

Weight loss boils down to "Energy In versus Energy Out." To lose weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. This is known as a Caloric Deficit.

This calculator works by:

  1. Calculating your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate): The calories your body burns at complete rest.
  2. Multiplying by your Activity Level to find your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). This is your maintenance level.
  3. Subtracting your chosen deficit (e.g., 500 calories) to find your daily calorie budget.
  4. Estimating the timeline based on the remaining deficit (Total Fat to Lose / Weekly Loss Rate).

Important: As you lose weight, your TDEE will drop because a smaller body requires less energy. You will need to recalculate your numbers every 10-15 lbs lost.
