Raise GPA Calculator
Calculate how many credit hours of specific grades you need to reach your target GPA.
How to Use This Calculator
Raising your GPA becomes harder the more credits you have already taken. This is because your "GPA weight" becomes heavier. This calculator does the complex algebra for you to determine the feasibility of your goals.
- Current GPA: Enter your cumulative GPA as it appears on your transcript.
- Current Credits: Enter the total number of graded credit hours you have completed so far. (Do not include Pass/Fail classes).
- Target GPA: Enter the GPA you want to achieve (e.g., 3.0 for scholarships, 3.5 for Dean's List).
- Future Average: Enter the GPA you expect to maintain in your future classes. Default is 4.0 (Straight A's) to show the fastest possible path.
Strategies to Raise Your GPA
1. Retake Classes
If your school offers "Grade Replacement" or "Forgiveness," retaking a class where you got a D or F is the most powerful move. Replacing a 0.0 (F) with a 4.0 (A) boosts your GPA far more than taking a new class.
2. Take Summer Classes
Summer terms are often shorter and allow you to focus on just 1 or 2 classes at a time, making it easier to secure an A.
3. Pad with Electives
If you need to boost your numbers, consider taking interesting but less rigorous elective courses where you are confident you can earn an A.
4. Avoid Overloading
Don't take 18 credits if you struggle with 15. It's better to take fewer classes and get A's than to rush and get C's.
