Sorority & Fraternity GPA Requirements (2025 List)

Going Greek is about brotherhood and sisterhood, but it's also about academics. Every national sorority and fraternity has a minimum GPA requirement for potential new members (PNMs). If your grades don't make the cut, you might be released from recruitment early—no matter how great your personality is.

The "Safe Zone" GPA

While many chapters state a minimum of 2.5, the competitive reality is different. To be safe for top-tier houses at large universities (SEC, ACC, Big 10), you typically need a 3.0 or higher from high school, or a 2.8+ college GPA.

Sorority GPA Requirements (Panhellenic)

Below are the national minimums for the 26 National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities.Important: Individual university chapters often set higher requirements than the national organization.

Fraternity GPA Requirements (IFC)

Fraternities generally have slightly more flexible GPA requirements than sororities, but the "All-Men's Average" on campus is often the benchmark. If you are below a 2.5, your options will be limited.

What If My GPA Is Too Low?

If you are borderline (e.g., a 2.4 when the requirement is 2.5), you have a few options:

  • Wait a Semester: Defer rush until Spring or Sophomore year. Use your first semester to build a high college GPA. A 3.5 college GPA looks much better than a 2.4 high school GPA.
  • Grade Risks: Some chapters can take a small number of "grade risks" if the PNM is exceptional in other areas (athletics, legacy, leadership). However, this is rare for top houses.
  • Explain the Context: If you had a medical issue or family emergency that tanked your GPA, mention it during recruitment conversations (carefully) or in your recommendation letters.

Not sure if your weighted or unweighted GPA will be used? Most Greek organizations look at your unweighted cumulative GPA.
