CBSE Grade Points System
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system for Class 10th, which uses a 9-point grading scale instead of traditional percentage marks.
Grade | Grade Points | Marks Range | Description |
---|---|---|---|
A1 | 10 | 91-100 | Outstanding |
A2 | 9 | 81-90 | Excellent |
B1 | 8 | 71-80 | Very Good |
B2 | 7 | 61-70 | Good |
C1 | 6 | 51-60 | Fair |
C2 | 5 | 41-50 | Satisfactory |
D | 4 | 33-40 | Acceptable |
E | 0 | 32 & below | Needs Improvement |
How to Calculate CGPA
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is calculated by taking the average of grade points obtained in all subjects.
Formula:
CGPA = Sum of all Grade Points ÷ Number of Subjects
CGPA to Percentage Conversion
To convert CGPA to percentage, CBSE uses the following formula:
Formula:
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
Example: If your CGPA is 8.2, then your percentage = 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%
Sample Calculation
Let's calculate CGPA for a student with the following grades:
Subject | Grade | Grade Points |
---|---|---|
Mathematics | A1 | 10 |
Science | A2 | 9 |
English | B1 | 8 |
Hindi | A2 | 9 |
Social Science | B1 | 8 |
Calculation:
Total Grade Points = 10 + 9 + 8 + 9 + 8 = 44
Number of Subjects = 5
CGPA = 44 ÷ 5 = 8.8
Percentage = 8.8 × 9.5 = 83.6%
