How to Calculate CGPA

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is calculated by taking the average of grade points obtained in all subjects.

Formula:

CGPA = Sum of all Grade Points ÷ Number of Subjects

CGPA to Percentage Conversion

To convert CGPA to percentage, CBSE uses the following formula:

Formula:

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

Example: If your CGPA is 8.2, then your percentage = 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%

Sample Calculation

Let's calculate CGPA for a student with the following grades:

SubjectGradeGrade Points
MathematicsA110
ScienceA29
EnglishB18
HindiA29
Social ScienceB18

Calculation:
Total Grade Points = 10 + 9 + 8 + 9 + 8 = 44
Number of Subjects = 5
CGPA = 44 ÷ 5 = 8.8
Percentage = 8.8 × 9.5 = 83.6%
