Body Fat Calculator
Track your fitness progress beyond just weight. Use the US Navy Method to estimate your body fat percentage with a simple tape measure.
Measurements (US Navy Method)
Measure below the larynx (Adam's apple).
Measure at the navel level.
Body Fat vs. BMI
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple calculation of weight divided by height. While useful for populations, it often misclassifies muscular individuals as "overweight" or "obese" because it cannot distinguish between fat mass and lean muscle mass.
Body Fat Percentage is a superior metric for individuals because it directly assesses composition. A 200lb man with 10% body fat is athletic; a 200lb man with 30% body fat is obese, even if their BMI is identical.
How to Measure Correctly
- 1
Neck
Measure below the Adam's apple. Keep the tape flat but not choking tight.
- 2
Waist (Men)
Measure at the navel level. Exhale normally before measuring.
- 3
Waist (Women)
Measure at the narrowest point of the abdomen, usually halfway between the ribcage and navel.
- 4
Hips (Women Only)
Measure at the widest part of the buttocks/hips.
